PNG
(Portable Network Graphics) is a loss less data file format, which is raster in
nature. It is the most popular amongst raster due to its great compression
qualities and the most preferred online. Even then for scaling, potion graphics
it needs to be converted to a vector form. So what is a vector? Vector graphics are based on mathematical
paths and line systems that progress through locations named as control or
anchor points. Each of the points has fixed position on the x and y-axes. Each
point is like a mini-database. It contains information on the location of the
point in the workspace, the direction of the vector. Each track can be
designated color, shape, width and fill. This does not affect the size of the
files in a considerable way because all data resides in the structure
itself.
This
is why vector is significant structure and for clients to be content one must
convert PNG to vector image, as it becomes error free. This vectorization will
enable use in various styles, sizes and forms in print and web media. The
resolution is enhanced resulting in great lucidity.

use Ink-scape and check out how to vectorize an image professionally. Open the
program and then open a file, a PNG image of an umbrella. Now go
to the path option and choose ‘trace PNG’. One can retain the default settings
itself and hit okay. A preview window will pop up. Then go on to ‘save as’ as
EPS file format, so click on the appropriate box and make sure whether
converter text to path status is checked and okay it. You will see the umbrella
as an EPS file saved in the new folder. Similarly, use the Live Trace option in
Adobe Illustrator and achieve newly traced file, which can be scaled, resized
and used across print and visual media without any quality loss. Of course clients are now
intelligent enough to identify good from bad visuals. They cannot be taken for
granted. So, one must take care not to just generate automated images but
fine tune the same manually by the deft hands of a skilled editor. After all,
the king has his say in the end.
